Lošinj has long been known as a destination where moderate Mediterranean micro-climate and unique blend of natural sea aerosols, abundant medicinal plant life and essential oils, all combine with the island's clean air and sea to form the “anti-asthmatic” air the quality of which has been reconised from the 19th century.
Lošinj’s climate and natural aerosols have a beneficial effect on pulmonary function of the people who visit Lošinj. These effects have been proven by spirometry, which was used to measure the parameters of patients’ pulmonary function upon their arrival and prior to their departure from the island.
Counting over 1,018 plant species, 939 of which are indigenous, the island of Lošinj is a perfect destination for those who want to treat various diseases and conditions as a supplementary therapy to the traditional medicine. Aromatherapy is extremely efficient and applicable in all elements of human life and, in many cases, its effects are equal to those of traditional medicine.
As a destination that boasts several beaches with the Blue Flag, a symbol of preservation of the environment, the island of Lošinj offers the possibility for swimming along its entire coast, while high seawater quality confirms the fact that Lošinj knows how to manage the environment responsibly.
The island’s vegetation is lush all year, and the plants greatly affect the quality of aerosols and microclimate. In fact, staying in dense coniferous forests if suffering from lung diseases has been strongly recommended since the ancient times.
Learn about the unresolved myth of an ancient athlete whose bronze statue was recovered from the Adriatic sea. Museum of Apoxyomenos is located in the Kvarner palace, on the waterfront in the Town of Mali Lošinj, Croatia. It will be a permanent home for the statue of Apoxyomenos.
The garden is decorated by the pattern of island’s heavenly widespread landscapes. It has over 250 wild herbs expanding scents through the two islands – Lošinj and Cres. Lošinj is also known for its famous sailors, who brought a wide amount of unfamiliar flora to the island.
The Blue World Institute of Marine Research and Conservation (BWI) works to protect the marine environment in the Adriatic Sea. To that purpose, the Blue World Institute operates three programmes – research, education, and conservation. Blue World Institute research focuses mainly on large marine vertebrates (dolphins and whales, sea turtles, sharks and giant devil rays) informing our education activities and conservation projects.
