A chess lover with a different view on coaching players

We do not tell our players what works

I love the analogy between tennis and chess, as both require strategic planning and execution. To maximise potential on the court, being proactive is key. Understanding the "what" and "why" behind each move empowers players, rather than being at the mercy of their opponents.

In my career as both a player and coach, I've learned that focusing on daily improvement is crucial. Making tomorrow better than yesterday, emphasizing goals over immediate results, and patiently working towards desired outcomes are essential. Believing in the process is a must.

At the Ljubicic Tennis Academy, we prioritise a collaborative approach with our players. By actively listening to their aspirations and providing unwavering honesty, we empower them to be their best. Our aim is to create an environment where players can enhance both their skills and their lives. It's our commitment to this principle that sets us apart and drives us forward.

The road to becoming an international symbol

1/3 THE BEGINNING

Discovering tennis at a young age

In 1988, a young Ivan Ljubicic discovered his love for tennis. Even as a child, his talent was evident, and he quickly began earning recognition with his first local awards as a junior player. His biggest success came when he reached the final at The Junior Championships, Wimbledon, a remarkable achievement that showcased his potential.

2/3 THE PLAYER

Establishing himself as a top professional player

Ivan turned pro in 1998, reaching the ATP Challenger final in Zagreb. He went on to win 10 ATP titles, including an Indian Wells 1000 in 2010. Noteworthy achievements include an Olympic bronze medal in doubles (2004) and leading Croatia to its first Davis Cup title (2005). His remarkable career peaked at ATP ranking No. 3. Ivan's dedication and indomitable spirit propelled him to success, making him a true inspiration in the world of tennis.

3/3 THE COACH

Forming a new generation of winners

Following his retirement from professional tennis, Ivan swiftly transitioned into coaching, working with top players like Roger Federer, whom he coached to three Grand Slam titles and a No. 1 ATP ranking. Recently, his appointment as the director of the "Ambition 2024" program by the French Tennis Federation showcased his influential role in shaping the future of tennis, solidifying his reputation as a driving force in the sport.
